15 MINUTES

15 minutes of fame...You've somehow become the unofficial cover girl to All That Jazz Photography's new website...

Is it because of your devastatingly cute looks?  Or because your mom subjects you to every whim of an idea she and the photographer can think of?  Regardless, you're a sport and now unofficial cover girl.

BEACH BUM

No trip to Hawaii would be complete without the requisite trip to the beach.  We didn't have beach toys for you, so we raided the kitchen drawers.

SILLY FRUIT

Next to shave ice, this was another favorite food of yours while in Kauai...

Silly fruit to you and me, rambutan to everyone else.

ICE ICE BABY

By far your favorite thing about Kauai?  It wasn't the beaches or breath-taking views.  It was shave ice.  No, not shaved ice, shave ice.  That's what they call it.  Really.

SLEEPING BEAUTY

You first trip to Hawaii involved a lot sight seeing.  Too bad the sight seeing in Kauai often coincided with naptime.  This is what your dad and I saw while you were sawing logs...

SLEEPING GIANT

We brought your backpack carrier all the way to Kauai to go on what amounted for one hike.  One whole hike.  We even purchased a special suitcase just to ship the thing.  Was it worth it?  Definitely.

Grandma Kathy would've killed your dad if she saw this.  Don't worry though we were responsible parents and decided to not summit Sleeping Giant, even though other hikers told us we should.  They said as long as we stuck our bodies as close as possible to the trail wall and held on to vines near the very top, we wouldn't fall off the edge and would be OK.  Tempting, but for your sake we passed.

The view must have been amazing because we couldn't get you to look at the camera.

HOUSEKEEPING

White linens, a one-year old, and strawberries.  Not a good combination.  Housekeeping...

BALLS

While in Kauai you tagged along to see some pretty amazing things...

Waimea Canyon

Wailua Falls

Hanalei Bay

But out of all these sites in Kauai that you were awake to see, this one was by far your favorite...

The Christmas trees at our resort.  "Balls" as you called the ornaments, you always made sure to pull at least one off the tree anytime we went by.

SCARY STUFF

Things that scare you these days:  Saiyan's enormous animated stuffed triceratops doll, your talking Cookie Monster doll, and this guy...

SEASON'S GREETINGS

Your dad and I couldn't settle on a Christmas card to send out to family and friends.  We wound up with two different cards this year.  Can you guess which card was your dad's idea?

LOVE IS...

Love is...spending  twenty minutes on a plane peeling the skin off grapes for you because that's how you like to eat grapes.  Skinless.

REINDEER GAMES

It seems as though I'm not the only one that likes to dress you up in silly costumes for pictures.  Look what Babysitter Julie did to you and Samantha...

TAG

Talented and gifted...I wouldn't have believed it if you're dad didn't hear it too, but we're convinced you said your very first complete sentence at 13 months old.  "I wan tu geh dow."  It certainly sounded like "I want to get down." to your dad and me.

Not only did you say it, but you said it 3 times in a row, as you crawled towards the end of our bed, trying to get down.  Amazing.  Simply amazing and a little creepy.  Actually very creepy.  It's making me think that your dad and I shouldn't use some of the words we use around you.

BABY LOVES DISCO

Baby loves disco, or not. You and I went to H&M's grand opening weekend to check out their Baby Loves Disco event. A big dance party for little kids and their parents. A dance party with real music, not nursery songs. Thank goodness for me. I thought this was right up your alley because you love other kids and love dancing to music even more. What a perfect combination.

Of course as soon as we arrived, you had no interest in the music or kids. All you wanted to do was play with the toys. The exact same toys that we have at home, minus the abacus. Things I learned from that day: you must not like techno music and you really like the abacus. Guess what's getting added to your Christmas shopping list...

3 BEARS

"Goldilocks snuck into the three bears' house. Goldilocks tasted Papa's bowl of porridge. It was too hot! Mama Bear's was too cool. But the little bowl of porridge was just right!"  And like the 3 bears, we now have 3 different kinds of milk in our refrigerator.  I refuse to drink 1% and your dad refuses to drink skim.  Now you throw whole milk into the mix and buying that counter-depth refrigerator may not have been such a good idea.  It seems to be filled with nothing but milk these days.

I have a feeling the 3 bears phenomenon could easily carry on into other things as well.  Smooth vs. chunky peanut butter, margarine vs. butter, white vs wheat bread.  These are just a few differences between your dad and me.  With our luck, it'll be none of the above for you because it'll be something completely different.  Go figure.

ADVANCED

At your one-year check, you seem to have finally grown into your cheeks.  According to Dr. Purcell's percentiles, at 21 pounds and 30 inches tall, you're in the 45th percentile for weight and 76th percentile for height.  Not only that, but she says you're "advanced."  A word every parent wants to hear from their pediatrician.

Why so advanced?  She saw you stand up on your own without grabbing anything for support.  Something a lot of kids your age can't do?  Not only only that, but you could tell Dr. Purcell was going to leave the room and you waived your hand and said, "Bye-bye."  Pretty advanced stuff for a one-year old, I guess.

LOBSTER WORLD
