As I patiently wait for your hair to grow in so I can style it in pigtails and ponytails with cute barrettes and ribbons, I've found something to keep me occupied with in the meantime. You look great in frosted highlights. Really.

STAND TALL
6.5 months old...and already standing? Not quite. At it's longest it lasted all of 30 seconds and I had to carefully mold you into this precarious position. This game was fun for us both, until it came to an abrupt end. You lost your balance and as I tried to break your fall, wound up accidentally hitting your head with the cell phone still in my hand that I had used to take this picture with instead. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Bad mommy.

DRESS REHEARSAL
This is probably my first and last attempt at a birthday cake for you, and it's not even your birthday yet.Actually, there were two attempts over the weekend. This is the original.
Not so pretty, right? That's why I did a dress rehearsal of sorts, to figure out whether or not I'd be up for the real task. Who knows, maybe I'll be up for making a fancy looking cake in 5.5 months for your first birthday. But right now I'm thinking Costco's pre-made cakes are looking pretty good.

DADA
Today I lost a bet with your dad. Months ago we bet on your first word. Of course I was betting on "mama," and your dad was taking "dada." Little did I know that on your daily commute to the babysitter's across town, your dad would be grooming you for your first word. When not stuck in rush-hour traffic listening to NPR, your dad has been working on "dada" with you. I'm convinced of this.

BEAN SPROUT
Someone's finally growing into her cheeks. Your 6-month check up results: 17.3 pounds and 26.6 inches long. Percentile-wise: 72% for weight and 75% for height. Phew, you're height-weight proportionate these days. Not that there's anything wrong with a fat kid. Cankels are cute on a baby, but on a grown woman...not so cute.
Dr. Purcell asked me if your dad was tall. I'm guessing she assumes you didn't get that height from me.
